Using the Text Editor

The text editor is built into the editing page of any area where you would want to create formatted content, like pages, articles, modules and many other areas. It is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor which means that the text edited in it looks as similar as possible to the results end users will see after the document gets published. It provides editing features found in desktop word processors such as Microsoft Word and OpenOffice.org Writer.

The editor has many options and buttons as shown below.

When using the editor, hold your mouse over any of the buttons momentarily to see the name of the button appear. Button descriptions and instructions on how to use several key features of the editor are provided in the links below.

Writing Enter (Return) – ends a paragraph and starts a new one. Shift+Enter – adds a line break. Backspace, Del – deletes a character. Ctrl+Backspace, Ctrl+Del – deletes a word. Undo and Redo Ctrl+Z – performs the undo operation. Ctrl+Y – performs the redo operation.
Working with a Document Toolbar Button Description View or edit the source code of the document (for advanced users). Save the contents of CKEditor and submit its data to the server, when CKEditor is placed inside an HTML form. Clear the editing area and create a new page.
In order to insert an image, simply press the Image button on the toolbar. The Image Properties dialog window that will open lets you set configuration options that define image source, its size, display properties, or other advanced properties.
The Link feature of CKEditor is a powerful option that lets you add clickable hyperlinks or e-mail addresses to your documents as well as control the way they look and work. To insert a link to you document, press the button on the toolbar or use the Ctrl+L keyboard shortcut. If you want the link to be assigned to a text fragment, select it first.
A table is a perfect format for some types of data, including statistical information. CKEditor not only lets you add and edit this document element in a quick and easy way but also offers advanced customization options. Creating a Table To create a table in CKEditor, press the button on the toolbar.
Checkbox A checkbox is a form element that lets you select an item and send your selection to the server when you are submitting the form. Multiple checkboxes may be combined in a logical group, although their selection is independent of one another, which means that more than one item of the group can be selected at a time.
You can insert the Facebook, YouTube, Twitter or any widget embed code into the website editor on any page, article, or module where you see the editor. Copy the code from the Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, or any site offering embed code, then edit the page, article, or module that you want to place the widget code into.
The editor allows you to preserve basic formatting when you paste a text fragment from Microsoft Word. To achieve this, copy the text in a Word document and paste it using one of the following methods: Press the button on the toolbar. Use the Ctrl+V shortcut on your keyboard.
